A financial Sword of Damocles still hangs over Washington’s budget as uncertainty remains over a federal funding freeze.  The state might have to trim additional billions of dollars from the Washington Legislature’s upcoming 2025-27 budget if President Donald Trump follows through on his order to halt all federal grants and loans to the states.

Jimmy Carter died on December 29 at age 100 in Plains, Georgia. Today, his body begins a trip from Plains to Atlanta to Washington, DC. He will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. On January 9, his funeral service will be held in the Washington National Cathedral.
