Documentary viewing of Singing for Justice. Followed by Q&A with the two co-directors. Followed by a protest song sing-along.
Estelle Freedman (History, Stanford, emerita) and Christie Herring (filmmaker) are joining the Whitman and Walla Walla communities for an evening viewing of the documentary film they produced and directed for PBS, Singing for Justice. The film explores the personal, political, and musical journeys of Faith Petric (1915-2012), a Whitman alumna (1937), in the context of the social movements she championed. It has been enthusiastically received both for its broad historical contributions and as a timely reminder of the long history of struggles for social justice. The film viewing will be followed by a Q&A session with both co-directors. The Q&A session will be followed by a protest song sing-along led by Estelle Freedman.
